Originally given away with the first 500 copies of the book A Is For Apple Volume 2, containing recordings taken from Apple acetates (Jackie Lomax – The Millionaire c/w Grenville & Weston – Aeroplane, Apcor 4), was also made available separately. The Millionaire is one of the tracks that was considered for Jackie’s Is This What You Want LP in 1968 but which didn’t make the cut. Jackie recorded this demo version of the song a Apple’s Baker Street demo studio shortly after he was signed to Apple Publishing. The B-side, Aeroplane, was found on an Apple Publishing demo acetate and was recorded by a duo called Grenville and Weston, of which not much else is known than that they recorded at least two songs in demo form, which both were administered by Apple Publishing.

All copies of the second edition of the book A Is For Apple Volume 1 came with a free 7″single (Just Living Our Lives – Robert & Miles Priestley (Apple Publishing) c/w Ev’rything’s Al’right – unknown band, as found on an Apple acetate, Apcor 5), which was also made available separately. Robert and Miles Priestley were signed as songwriters to Apple Publishing but other than a handful of song titles they composed and found in the Apple Publishing files and the odd demo acetate, none of their songs ever went on to success and the brothers vanished into obscurity. The song Just Living Our Lives was found on an Apple Publishing acetate and was never released officially. The B-side of this single features the well-known Mojos song Ev’rything’s Al’right recorded by an unknown band and found on an Apple acetate, most likely recorded at the Apple Studios in the early 1970s.

Slow Dog were a band that won a talent contest organized by Apple in Cambridge and were destined to be signed by Apple. Why this didn’t work out in the end is all revealed in A Is For Apple Volume 2. Four of the band’s recordings made around the time of the contest have been included on an EP exclusive to this book, kindly donated by Dave Kelly from Slow Dog and it marks the first time these recordings have ever seen an official release! All copies of A Is For Apple Vol. 2 came with this EP with four Slow Dog recordings (Little Girl – Take Off c/w I Have No Answers – She’s Got Love, Apcor 3), but a number of copies have been made available for sale separately.

Single Lu La Le Lu, featuring Klaus Voormann‘s original demo recording on Side A and Wishful Thinking’s version on Side 2. Comes in a gatefold sleeve designed by Klaus and Maximilian Voormann (Apcor 2). KLAUS VOORMANN: Introduced by ex-Beatle George Harrison at the Concert For Bangla Desh in 1971: “Many people have heard about him, but they’ve never actually seen him”, Klaus Voormann is one of the most famous bass players in the history of rock music. He met The Beatles in Hamburg when they were still struggling for success in the early 1960s and befriended all of the members. Throughout the 1960s Klaus made a name of his own playing bass in various bands before joining Manfred Mann and having various hit records with them (a.o. The Mighty Quinn, Ha Ha Said The Clown & My Name Is Jack). At the end of the 1960s Klaus became a very much in-demand session player and he’s played on various legendary songs such as John Lennon’s Imagine, George Harrison’s My Sweet Lord, and on songs by Lou Reed, Harry Nilsson, Carly Simon, Ringo Starr, James Taylor and hundreds of others. Later on in his career he produced the German band Trio who had a huge hit with Da Da Da. Next to his bass playing, Klaus is also famous for having designed many legendary album covers, such as The Bee Gees 1st, Ringo Starr’s Ringo LP and the Beatles’ Revolver and Anthology albums. Klaus and Christina Voormann granted us the rights to release Klaus’ rare demo version of a song he composed called Lu La Le Lu, which was administered by Apple Publishing in the early 1970s and which has been taken off an original Apple acetate, but also members of a band called Wishful Thinking have been so generous to grant us the rights to occupy the other side of the single with their version of this song, which was released in 1972 in the UK and has been long out of print since. Adrian Sinclair has lent his technical skills to clean up the acetate which was in a rather deplorable state and now sounds better than it has ever done! The A-side features Klaus Voormann on vocals, accompanying himself on guitar, singing his own composition Lu la Le Lu. This demo version was recorded on his Grundig tape recorder. Around the time of this recording Klaus was staying in a small cottage at George Harrison’s Friar Park Estate. The acetate was given to Wishful Thinking and has never been heard outside a very small circle of people and certainly never officially released before. The single has been issued in a limited run of 1,000 copies, housed in a beautiful picture cover with original art work by Klaus, drawn around the time of the demo recording (1969/1970) and made available by Klaus and Christina Voormann especially for this release.

Apple act White Trash was in the process of recording material for a possible album release on The Beatles’ label when Allen Klein pulled the plug on several projects, including this one. Thanks to Antonio Caroselli, who graciously shared a recording of his Apple acetate, Apcor were able to present the only known surviving completed track of these sessions as a 7” vinyl single release, housed in a superb Picture Sleeve! The track, Bad Weather, was also recorded by Scottish band The Poets (which at one point featured future White Trash guitarist Fraser Watson) whose line-up included the song’s composer Hugh Nicholson, who went on to join The Marmalade. This recording, lent by Lenny Helsing (of Ugly Things magazine), is featured on the B-side of this 7” vinyl single. Individual copies of the single have been made available for separate purchase (Apcor 6).
